Why Reporting on Greenhouse Gas Emissions is Important
Understanding and Mitigating Environmental Impact
Accurate reporting on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is essential for understanding their environmental impact. By identifying the scale and sources of emissions, stakeholders can develop effective strategies to mitigate climate change.
Detailed emissions data informs policy and decision-making, allowing governments, businesses, and organisations to set realistic and effective reduction targets. Regular reporting tracks progress and helps adjust policies and measures as needed.
Furthermore, transparent reporting enhances accountability and builds public trust, motivating entities to take robust action against climate change.
Encouraging Sustainable Practices and Innovation
Publicly reported GHG emissions data pressures businesses to adopt sustainable practices, fostering innovation in green technologies and more efficient resource use.
This transparency encourages organisations to implement strategies that reduce their environmental footprint, leading to cost savings through improved energy efficiency and resource management. It also opens up opportunities in emerging green markets, providing a competitive advantage for businesses that lead in sustainability.
Moreover, reporting on emissions is part of corporate social responsibility, showing stakeholders a company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and enhancing its reputation.
Supporting Research and International Cooperation
Accurate GHG emissions data is vital for scientific research, helping scientists understand climate change patterns, predict future scenarios, and develop models to study mitigation strategies.
This data supports global efforts to combat climate change by facilitating international cooperation. Transparent emissions reporting is a key component of international agreements like the Paris Agreement, ensuring all parties meet their commitments to limit global temperature rise.
Additionally, reducing GHG emissions can directly benefit public health by decreasing air pollution, which lowers the incidence of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
Commitment to Achieving Net Zero
Indigo Fitness Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2035

Emissions Reduction Targets
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next ten years to 14 tCO₂e by 2034. This is a reduction of 83%. The remaining emissions will be offset by a certified Gold Standard carbon offset, as part of our certified carbon neutrality programme, in accordance with the requirements of PAS 2060:2014.
Carbon Reduction Projects
These are our baseline emissions. The following is a breakdown of our current plans and ambitions to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in the following period.
The envisaged carbon reductions are based on the notion that around 70% of our carbon emissions are from vehicle emissions, whether owned by the company (Scope 1) or by our employees (Scope 3).
By replacing the internal combustion engine vehicles in use now with electric, hydrogen powered or hybrid vehicles, in the following 10-year period, these emissions can be reduced almost completely.
Further reduction can be achieved by reducing the energy usage for the offices by installing solar panels or switching to green supplier where possible, since the company owns the premises it occupies.
There may be options available for improvement of the insulation, installation of energy saving double-glazed windows, and other structural solutions.
Business travel by air is to be conducted only in economy class, and reduced whenever possible. Employees, when it comes to working from home, will be incentivised to switch to a green energy supplier. Bike-to-work and sharing commute schemes can also be developed.
Measures to date (Pre-2023):
- Infrared heating with movement sensors installed throughout production areas.
- Premises refurbished with a new insulated roof and double glazing throughout. Roof lights to utilise natural light also installed to reduce the need to use powered lighting.
- Automated lighting with movement detectors and timers installed across all corridors, toilets and canteens.
Ongoing measures (current and future):
- January 2024 contract signed with utility providers to purchase all electrical energy from renewable sources.
- 2023 Premier Inns preferred Hotel account where we book staff for 90% of our requirement.
- 2023 migrated to Cloud based software for accounts as well as Microsoft 365 and Sharepoint versus internal servers.
- 2023 Disposed of all LPG Forklift trucks and switched to new Lithium battery powered FLT‘s.
- 2023 All paper and also Wood based products for product manufacturing FSC.
