A gym refurbishment needs to work as a whole. At Bannatyne Norwich West, IndigoFitness worked closely with the team to rethink the entire gym floor, planning the layout around all equipment and training areas, not only the products we supplied.
The Situation
Bannatyne wanted to make better use of the gym floor and give members more ways to train. The existing layout needed clearer separation between activities, alongside additional cable capacity, functional training options and storage for accessories.
The refurbishment also called for work below the surface. IndigoFitness uplifted the existing equipment and flooring, then carried out multiple repairs to the damaged subfloor before the new flooring was installed.
The Solution
A gym floor designed as one space
IndigoFitness planned the layout of the full gym floor, taking every training area and piece of equipment into account. This allowed the new equipment to have the greatest possible impact while creating a clearer flow between strength, functional training and stretching.
At the centre of the design is a back-to-back dual adjustable pulley (DAP) and functional rig with integrated storage. It adds much-needed cable capacity and supports individual workouts and classes, with workstations including a soft throw wall. The structure also creates a natural divide between the functional and stretch areas without leaving unused floor space.
Storage for accessories and attachments keeps equipment close to where it is used, making the space easier to navigate and classes easier to set up.
Flooring built around the way members train
The downstairs gym floor was completely relaid with 20mm Enuratile. Three inset lifting platforms, a two-lane turf track and an inset stretch area give each activity a defined place within the wider layout.
The track and wall ball targets add provision for HYROX-style training, while the dedicated stretch area provides space for mobility, warm-ups and recovery.
A consistent Bannatyne identity
Customisation across the equipment and flooring ties the training areas together and gives the finished gym floor a distinct Bannatyne feel. Gungnir barbells are used throughout, introducing an integrated collar-free system to the strength areas.
