Training Space: Leisure Centre

Broadwood Stadium, operated by North Lanarkshire Council, sought to revamp its fitness facilities to cater to diverse user demographics while optimising limited space. The challenges included outdated suspended wooden flooring, space constraints, and the need to create a trendy space while also accommodating an older demographic.
The Situation
IndigoFitness’ second site collaborating with North Lanarkshire Council proceeding Wishaw Sports Centre. The Broadwood site provided specific gym design challenges.
- Suspended Wooden Flooring: The existing suspended wooden flooring posed limitations for functional and free weight training, hindering the versatility of the current gym space.
- Limited and Challenging Space: Broadwood Stadium faced spatial constraints, requiring creative solutions to maximise utility within the available area.
- Catering to Diverse Demographics: Balancing the creation of trendy training zones while ensuring accessibility and comfort for older users presented a unique challenge.
The Solution
To address these challenges, IndigoFitness implemented sophisticated solutions tailored to Broadwood Stadium’s requirements:
Subfloor Modification
IndigoFitness overhauled the subflooring to accommodate functional and free weight training, enhancing the gym’s versatility and functionality.
Creative Design and Unique Equipment
Leveraging creative design principles and innovative equipment solutions, IndigoFitness crafted bespoke training rigs that optimised space while offering increased functionality and aesthetic appeal. This included a custom cable rig back to back with a custom function rig which allows capacity for larger groups to train alongside one another. With the potential to use the space for specific group training classes on the gym floor.
Designated Training Zones
IndigoFitness introduced designated training zones using relevant gym flooring to distinguish each area. The cool aesthetics of each training zone cater to modern fitness trends while ensuring inclusivity for users of all ages.

‘As training has evolved we’ve found that our functional area has become less fit for purpose due to the size. Now our new functional area has made a massive difference to our gym.’
