IndigoFitness partnered with Lab Spa to design and deliver a completely bespoke functional rig that would overcome complex structural constraints while becoming the visual and functional centrepiece of the gym. The result is a highly personalised training space that maximises usability, flow, and brand identity within a compact footprint.

The Situation

The Lab Spa & Health Club approached IndigoFitness as a trusted partner, having previously collaborated with us on custom rig installations at two earlier sites. For their latest location, the challenge was significantly more complex.

The gym floor was compact and dominated by four offset structural pillars positioned centrally, immediately ruling out any off-the-shelf solution. Rather than being evenly spaced, each pillar sat slightly out of alignment, meaning any central structure would need to be entirely bespoke to avoid compromising usability, circulation, or visual balance.

Alongside the physical constraints, Lab Spa is a highly precise client with a strong focus on detail, performance, and member experience. Every element of the design needed to work operationally on a busy gym floor while also reinforcing the club’s premium identity. This combination of spatial complexity and design ambition required a collaborative, design-led approach from the outset.

The Solution

IndigoFitness led the project with a clear focus on problem-solving through design. At first glance, the pillars appeared to form a simple square that could be wrapped by a large, impactful rig. However, detailed site investigation revealed the misalignment, making this approach impractical. Early concepts explored larger rig structures, but through multiple design iterations and open collaboration with Lab Spa, the solution was refined and pared back.

The final design prioritised flow, flexibility, and usability, ensuring the rig enhanced the gym rather than dominating it.

Key elements of the solution included:

A custom RAZE Zenith bridge rig linking three of the four pillars, allowing them to become functional anchors rather than obstacles.
Two pillars wrapped with RAZE Shadow Dual Adjustable Pulley (DAP) stations and one with a RAZE Shadow half rack, each integrated with rear-facing functional storage.
A comprehensive mix of functional stations including monkey bars, an additional lifting station, boxing arm, wall bars, Nordic / single-leg squat attachment, and accessory storage.
The fourth pillar intentionally left clear, preserving openness beneath the rig and allowing flexible HIIT and cardio activity to take place.
A custom turf track running beneath the rig to support dynamic training and visual cohesion.
Custom stainless steel logo plates, layered for depth and impact, reinforcing Lab Spa’s brand identity through the structure itself.

Throughout the process, IndigoFitness balanced ambition with restraint, ensuring there was enough space around the rig for it to be used properly, while still delivering a strong visual statement.

The Result

The finished installation is a complete one of a kind functional rig that transforms structural limitations into a defining feature of the space.

By utilising the pillars, the rig creates intuitive flow across the gym floor and making the space feel larger and more open. The combination of integrated storage, multifunctional stations, and clear training zones allows members and coaches to use the space efficiently without congestion.

Crucially, the project demonstrates that great gym design is not about filling every square metre with equipment, but about creating a solution that works harmoniously with the building, the brand, and the way members train.
