When Third Space set out to create its newest club in Chelsea, the ambition was clear: deliver a training space that would surpass expectations, combining world-class performance with exceptional gym design.

Building on our longstanding partnership, IndigoFitness was tasked with creating a gym that felt even more premium than a standard Third Space club. Every detail needed to reflect the elevated experience expected from one of the brand’s flagship locations.

THE CHALLENGE

Third Space Chelsea is housed within a beautifully restored former telephone exchange spanning five floors. While the architecture creates a striking environment, it also presented a series of complex design challenges.

The top floor features dramatic sloping walls into the ceiling running the length of the space, alongside structural pillars positioned directly within key training zones. Every piece of equipment had to be carefully designed around these fixed architectural features to maximise usable floor space without compromising aesthetics or functionality.

At the same time, the finish had to reflect the premium nature of the club.

Working closely with the design team, IndigoFitness incorporated the bespoke staircase pattern used throughout the building into the gym equipment itself. Custom interpretations of the pattern were integrated across logo plates, equipment shrouds and upholstery, creating a design language unique to Third Space Chelsea.

Beyond the visual identity, the client also wanted to push innovation further than ever before.

The brief included creating a next-generation personal training product, introducing new technology to improve member performance while ensuring every space remained practical, intuitive and beautifully designed.

Bespoke Design Meets Industry-Leading Innovation

Every aspect of the facility was designed specifically for the space, resulting in one of the most customised gym installations IndigoFitness has ever delivered.

Completely bespoke strength equipment

To work seamlessly within the sloping walls, every Shadow XD Rack was custom manufactured to match the angle of the walls and ceiling, preserving valuable training space while creating a truly integrated appearance.

Integrated mirrors were mounted within the racks, complete with protective backing pads to prevent frame vibration, while bespoke barbell storage was built directly onto the pillars for improved accessibility and efficient use of space.

Throughout the gym, premium finishes elevate every training area. The new Shadow XD adjustable benches feature custom black leather upholstery with stitched detailing, debossed branding and laser-cut IndigoFitness logos. A finish carried consistently across the entire bench range, including the Olympic benches.

A new generation of Personal Training Pods

Building on the success of the PT Pods first introduced at Third Space The Whiteley, the Chelsea club takes the concept to another level.

Each bespoke PT Pod integrates storage, cable systems and portrait display screens powered by Remaker Velocity Based Training technology. Real-time performance feedback enables personal trainers and members to optimise every lift, creating a strength training experience rarely seen within the commercial fitness sector.

Custom storage was designed around the building’s structural pillars, discreetly housing screens, tablets and accessories while maintaining a clean, premium aesthetic.

The result is a highly flexible coaching concept that supports both elite performance and everyday member training.

Premium customisation throughout

Attention to detail extends across every product supplied.

This is the highest level of bespoke branding IndigoFitness has delivered within a Third Space club. From upholstery and laser-cut branding to custom logo plates and decorative detailing, every piece of equipment was manufactured specifically for this project.

Storage solutions were equally considered. The latest evolution of the Sweat X storage system combines efficient equipment organisation with refined aesthetics, supporting both HIIT programming and HYROX-style training while complementing the overall interior design.

Innovation that enhances performance

Third Space Chelsea is also the first club within the group to fully embrace Gungnir’s collar-free barbell system.

By introducing Gungnir barbells throughout the strength offering, members benefit from faster transitions, improved training flow and an innovative lifting experience that reflects Third Space’s commitment to leading the industry.

The functional training area was designed around the building’s impressive skylights and iconic “Training for Life” feature, with double-sided rigs and storage framing the functional track while maximising circulation throughout the space.

Integrated soft throw targets, multiple pull-up bar diameters and bespoke HYROX targets ensure the space supports everything from functional fitness sessions to performance-focused training.

To ensure the premium acoustic flooring continued to perform effectively, bespoke spreader plates were also installed beneath cardio and selectorised strength equipment to evenly distribute loads and protect the subfloor.
