Third Space, London’s leading luxury health club operator, partnered with IndigoFitness to design and manufacture a highly bespoke training space for their newest location, The Whiteley. Set within an iconic Grade II listed redevelopment, the brief required a premium, architectural-level solution that balanced performance, identity and structural complexity.

CLIENT VISION & DESIGN CHALLENGE

Third Space partnered with IndigoFitness to create a premium, design‑led training space that reflected the architectural significance of The Whiteley. The brief required elevating member experience, integrating new training concepts and delivering a space that balanced performance with the constraints of a heritage building.

Key challenges shaping the project:

Strict acoustic and vibration limitations across a highly sensitive heritage structure.
A complex architectural layout with pillars, unique geometry and a dominant skylight feature.
A central combat zone that needed to act as both a performance space and architectural showpiece.
A new PT concept built around The Cable Rack, with integrated, high-spec storage and Third Space personalisation elements.
A HIIT studio needed to support HYROX programming, all within a space with extremely limited ceiling height.

These challenges demanded a gym design partner capable of delivering bespoke solutions, integrating deeply with architects and project managers, and British made custom manufacturing.

SOLUTIONS DELIVERED

Combat & MMA Zone – The Showpiece
To match the geometry of the skylight above, IndigoFitness engineered a fully bespoke combat cage with custom frame sections, branded pads and integrated flooring. The system uses a combination of ceiling, pillar and precision-positioned pedestal fixings, designed to work within acoustic constraints while remaining structurally robust.
A sliding bag rail and custom combat storage complete the space, creating both a functional training area and a visual centrepiece.

PT Pods – Multi‑Functional Hubs
Four PT Pods were designed around the The Cable Rack, each delivered with bespoke logo plates, shrouds and storage. Due to the acoustic floor, none of the structures could be fixed down, meaning all pods were engineered to be completely freestanding without compromising stability, functionality or appearance.
Inset Graphix platforms add identity and give each pod its own training “zone.”

Functional Area & Pillar Integration
Double-sided storage units create natural flow through the functional zone, while pillar‑wrapping storage turns structural obstacles into purposeful training stations.
Wall ball work, dips, muscle-ups and throw walls are integrated seamlessly into the architecture.

HIIT & HYROX Studio – Intelligent Space Engineering
To deliver HYROX programming in a space with limited ceiling height, IndigoFitness manufactured a custom cable wrap hub and installed six wall ball targets with millimetre precision.
Bespoke storage solutions maintain a clean, premium aesthetic while supporting fast equipment turnover between classes.

Strength & Lifting Area – Premium British Craft
IndigoFitness delivered the full lifting suite, including stainless steel Shadow XD Racks, XD Olympic Benches, Adjustable Benches, and a curated selection of Gungnir bars for another premium touchpoint. Custom attachment storage, plate trees, sleds and toast racks were designed to integrate the space into the wider aesthetic, ensuring consistency, stability and long-term performance.

Flooring & Acoustic Engineering
IndigoFitness delivered a full acoustic strategy including:

– Spreader plates installed beneath almost every piece of equipment, from single stations to cardio.
– Acoustic pads behind the combat cage fixing plates.
– Pedestal systems engineered to fix equipment into the slab before the acoustic floor was built up.
– Inset Graphix platforms integrated into the lifting and PT Pod zones with Third Space branding.

The Result

The Whiteley introduces multiple new concepts for Third Space, including:

– A central combat zone as a striking architectural feature
– PT Pods as multi-functional training hubs
– HYROX integration within a HIIT studio
– A significantly enhanced functional area designed around the building’s unique structure.

IndigoFitness is now an embedded part of every Third Space project team, supporting architects, project managers and fitness leaders to achieve design-led, premium training spaces that deliver long-term value.
