IndigoFitness recently collaborated with Village Hotels to create a unique, outdoor fitness space designed to offer versatile and engaging group fitness classes. With a focus on innovative design, functionality, and adaptability, this project transformed a previously unused outdoor area into a state-of-the-art fitness hub.

The Situation

Village Hotels had already explored outdoor fitness spaces at several locations but primarily with functional rigs that had limited versatility. This time, the client sought a complete outdoor solution that revolved around a 20ft container, from which they could run new group ex classes. The idea was to move beyond the simple outdoor rigs to create a more functional, engaging, and flexible training space that maximised the available space.

The client provided a 14m x 14m blank canvas and wanted IndigoFitness to design a space that was not only highly functional but could be easily programmed for different training activities. The solution needed to accommodate multiple exercise stations while maintaining flexibility for varied workout programming. In essence, the goal was to create an outdoor fitness environment that optimised space, encouraged member engagement, and could potentially be replicated across other Village Hotels locations.

The Solution

IndigoFitness approached this project from the ground up, working alongside Village Hotels from the initial concept to installation. Designing the entire outdoor training space, ensuring that every detail was aligned with Village Hotels’ requirements for functionality and flexibility.

This included installing high-performance gym flooring, choosing Duratrain 32mm tiles along, perfect for outdoor use. With 12m-long turf tracks on either side of the training area for sled pushes, speed drills, and plyometric exercises. These turf lanes enhanced the space’s ability to accommodate different forms of training and offered a dynamic surface for high-intensity workouts.

The central hub of the space was a custom-designed 20ft container, insulated and fitted with lighting, storage, and an electric roller shutter door for ease of use. The container housed multiple accessories and equipment for group training sessions, providing an innovative storage solution. The functional wing of the container featured multiple bag hanging points along the front, with two horizontal throw targets at each end and two squat racks at the rear.

To maximise functionality, the training area was equipped with functional attachments and Reflex grid markings, which helped define workout stations and made it easier to program engaging group ex classes. This setup ensured a smooth flow of activities and optimised the use of available space, allowing Village Hotels to offer varied and engaging training programs.
