Warwickshire College Group (WCG) partnered with IndigoFitness to transform a blank sports hall into a purpose-built strength and conditioning facility to support their growing sports academy programme. The aim was to create a high-performance training space that reflects the college’s identity, supports large-group training, and provides the tools needed for athlete development and future growth.
The Situation
The Solution
IndigoFitness worked with WCG to shape a vision for the space. What began as a typical college sports hall quickly evolved into a high-performance training space designed around the people who would use it. The students, athletes, coaches, and partners driving the college’s sports programmes forward.
Through workshops and design sessions, the team explored how the facility needed to function: a space that could host multiple academies, support concurrent sessions, and adapt as the programme grows. Every decision balanced functionality, flexibility, and a strong sense of identity.
Design Approach
Rather than a single open area, the layout was carefully zoned to define training areas without limiting movement. A central turf track now runs through the heart of the gym, acting as both a visual divider and a practical transition between lifting and accessory zones. The flow encourages athletes to move seamlessly through their sessions while allowing coaches to run multiple groups at once.
Flooring Touches
At floor level, every detail was engineered for durability and performance. Heavy lifting areas feature DuraTrain Plus 32mm impact tiles with inset Graphix platforms embedded into the floor, each carrying the WCG brand. PaviFlex Fitness Xtreme Eco flooring provides enters the cardio, accessory and mobility zones, while a TurFlex Premium turf track adds both visual impact and functionality for speed and conditioning work.
Custom Equipment
The facility was fitted with a bespoke configuration of Shadow Series full racks and modular storage, designed to maximise space and efficiency. Custom-branded XD Adjustable benches, Gungnir collarless barbells and a full suite of free weights create the foundation for serious performance work.Plate-loaded strength stations, including seated calf, leg extension and GHD units, add variety for coaches planning diverse training blocks.
Identity and Ownership
Beyond performance, the space needed to belong to WCG. IndigoFitness infused the facility with the academy’s colours, laser-cut detailing, and embroidered branding. A design language that connects students & athletes to their college and builds a sense of pride and ownership. The result is a gym that not only performs at an elite level but also tells the story of who it’s for and what it represents.

The Result
The transformation at WCG’s Moreton Morrell campus has gone far beyond new equipment, it has reshaped how student athletes train, recover, and progress. What began as a traditional sports hall is now a vibrant, high-performance training space driving real results.
Becky Brannigan, Head of School Student Life, explains:
“The purpose of this training space is not only a gym for students and staff to use but the main purpose is for a strength and conditioning gym to help athletes with performance so that they actually get better.”
With a full-time strength and conditioning coach working in the space, academy athletes now follow structured programmes focused on performance improvement and rehabilitation, bridging the gap between education and elite training.
Reflecting on the process, Becky adds:
“The reason we chose Indigo was mainly the service they provided… Sam clearly understood the project and the vision we wanted to create and the financial constraints we were working within.”
Even when unexpected budget adjustments occurred, IndigoFitness adapted without compromising the core vision.
“They were really accommodating and understanding… Sam worked really well with us around the new budget and created a space that was still really useable for the students.”
For Strength and Conditioning Coach Will Jackson, the new training space has transformed what’s possible in athlete development:
“The new facilities and equipment have allowed us to adapt and progress athletes in different ways that we couldn’t in the gym facilities we used to have.”
He’s already seeing improvements in athlete performance and engagement, supported by a facility that feels professional, versatile, and inspiring.
“The communication between us and Sam was fantastic. They were really helpful with questions we had and really fast with installation . Efficient, and great teamwork.”
A Lasting Impact
Today, the WCG performance gym stands as a showcase of what can be achieved when vision, design, and collaboration align. It’s a space that not only performs at an elite level but represents the college’s identity, ambition, and commitment to student success.
