IndigoFitness creates Corporate Training Hub for Game Changer Performance

IndigoFitness creates Corporate Training Hub for Game Changer Performance

Established in elite sports, Game Changer Performance (GCP) have been working at the forefront of human performance since 2016, combining talent, research, and science to maximise human potential, with exceptional results.  They are currently working with over 65 professional teams including Premier League, EFL, F1 and several national governing bodies and businesses throughout the UK.

See The Brief

The Brief:

GCP were looking to launch a new corporate wellbeing service aimed at enabling businesses to improve the health of their workforce, and needed a high-performance equipment provider to complement their tailored multi-disciplinary offering.  IndigoFitness were identified as a stand-out candidate in this regard and were selected to partner GCP and provide a showroom that would illustrate exactly what can be achieved in an everyday office space.  One of the keys to the brief was that the solution needed to be straightforward and modular, something that could be picked up and dropped into any office around the country.

View The Solution

The Solution:

The space we designed for GCP is based around the training programs they provide for their clients.   It can be broken down into four ‘pods’, each focusing on different pillars of health: Mobility, Conditioning, Strength, and Cardio.

The Mobility and Conditioning pods are centered around our Monster storage system, each accommodating the necessary equipment and functionality required by each pod.  Attached to the conditioning pod is a ‘Limitless Solo’ with a sliding mass adjustable weight – a product that enables a huge variety of exercises without the requirement for a bar and plates.  Both pods are linked by a set of wall bars, providing another attachment point for stretching and band work.

The Strength pod utilises the RAZE Shadow series rack and storage range, with a half rack positioned centrally and storage bays flanking it, linking to height adjustable cable columns either side.

Being aimed at the corporate market, the ability to customise and brand the training space was a key factor.  Therefore, we chose PaviFLEX Pro Eco flooring as it allows for logos to be incorporated – and for GCP we positioned their logo in the centre of the floor space.  All the pods feature laser cut joining plates displaying the GCP logo and the name of the pod, and the upholstery on the adjustable bench also has the logo.

The Result:

GCP have a showroom that links their training approach and programming with a first-class equipment offering, allowing them to take a full solution to market and bring their elite sport levels of health and performance to corporate clients.

Game Changer Performance director Jake Keeling explained:  “Taking inspiration from the work we do in elite sport, we bring the latest scientific principles, performance methods and kit to your workplace; designing and installing the very best functional equipment normally reserved for elite team training centres.”

Outdoor Training Solution for RAF Fairford

Outdoor Training Solution for RAF Fairford

RAF Fairford is owned by the UK Ministry of Defence and operated by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the United States Air Force (USAF).  It is among the most populated American bases located in the UK and has the longest UK runway, clocking it at 3,046m long.

Working alongside our US partner, McFall Consulting, we recently manufactured and installed a RAZE 20’ Tactical Box for the US Air Force.  The RAZE Tactical Box is the ideal team training solution, providing the base for functional, movement-based training for sporting and military personnel.  Developed using shipping containers, the Tactical Box can be safely shipped to any destination in the world. All the training equipment, including the rig and climbing station is stored inside, and can be built up and ready for action in as little as 45 minutes.  Additionally, all the exterior training frames are galvanized for all-weather protection.

After consulting with the team at RAF Fairford to ascertain their training requirements, we recommended they added interior and exterior LED lighting – the base operates 24/7/365, and the addition of lighting means their Tactical Box can do as well.

As they were looking to store a wide range of accessory equipment inside, we designed a custom storage solution and made sure the container was fully insulated.  Insulation controls both temperature and moisture, allowing the kit stored inside to remain in good condition.  The alternative is a container that suffers extremes of heat and cold, leading to rapid degradation of any equipment stored inside.

The external rig features four lifting stations, three ball target stations, numerous pull up stations, dip, grappler, and rope attachments.  On the other side of the container is a 5m rope climb and separate half rack.

The container itself was finished with the crest and logo of the 420th Air Base Squadron of RAF Fairford.

A bit about IndigoFitness and the design of our container-based training systems:

IndigoFitness are strength and conditioning specialists.  As with designing standard gym spaces, we apply a consistent theory when looking at outdoor training spaces – starting with primal human movement and incorporating components of stability, strength, power, injury prevention, and recovery.  This theory shapes equipment features, accessories, and the small equipment package.

The RAZE container-based training systems are designed and manufactured at our plant in Warwickshire.  To maintain high levels of quality and compliance we work to internationally agreed standards including ISO 9001:2015, ISO14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, plus construction industry standards CHAS, and we are a Constructionline Gold member.

Updated Strength and Conditioning Facility for RGS Guildford

Updated Strength and Conditioning Facility for RGS Guildford

RGS Guildford is one of the most prestigious schools in the country and, since its foundation in 1509, has established a national reputation for academic excellence.  It combines an inspiring Tudor setting in the heart of historic Guildford with the facilities expected of a modern-day institution; a traditional, rigorous grammar school ethos with an innovative, independent approach to education; and is a school where academia is only one facet of a far richer experience and an extraordinary array of opportunities.

See The Brief

The Brief:

RGS already had a very comprehensive school gym in terms of equipment, however, the previously installed flooring was failing, and the freestanding integrated platforms and larger individual stations were taking up large amounts of space, so they decided the time was right to give their gym an update.  They asked us to look at a solution that would give them more training options and flexibility, whilst at the same time providing more free floor space.

View The Solution

The Solution:

As always when approaching a gym design, we looked to make the decision about flooring first.  To protect the subfloor and reduce noise and vibrations in neighboring rooms, we supplied 32mm duraTRAIN tiles.  DuraTRAIN is an industry leading rubber gym tile, the result of extensive testing, engineering, and a patented three-stage compression molding process.  The exceptional quality of these tiles means that they are ideal in strength training and Olympic lifting areas, and for RGS that meant that additional freestanding platforms were no longer required, which instantly increased the floor space available.  Four custom branded Graphix platforms were inset into the duraTRAIN to provide dedicated lifting areas, whilst maintaining a seamless finish on the floor.

On top of the platforms, four Zenith series power racks were installed, linked together with three bar wings for additional training functionality.  The racks, along with the lifting platforms, provided eight lifting stations in total, and with grappler attachments, gym ball storage and dip attachments, delivered a diverse training station along one side of the training space.  The racks were finished with custom branded joining plates bearing the RGS logo.

On the opposite side of the gym is a Shadow series storage unit holding the RAZE PU dumbbells, slam balls, and med balls.  Incorporated into the storage unit structure is a lat pull down/low row combo at one end, and a dual pulley at the other.  Integrating all these elements into one unit is what really allowed us to massively increase the flexible free floor space available to the coaches, making sessions and classes that much easier to plan and run.  Additionally, and to ensure the floor space was completely clear of clutter of any kind, we supplied a wall fixed unit to store all mats, power bands, lifting belts, and speed ropes.

Infront of the storage unit are two adjustable benches, finished with the schools’ colour scheme and featuring an embroidered logo on the upholstery.

Posterior chain exercises are fully covered with the supply of glute ham and reverse hyper benches.  Other equipment supplied to provide a wide and diverse range training options were Shadow series Olympic bars, Zenith series bumper plates, and RAZE stackable plyo boxes.

View The Result

The Result:

Overall, the use of a superior flooring solution combined with bespoke manufactured items has allowed us to create a training space that really delivers on the schools’ brief of increasing floor space and training flexibility, whilst providing a top-class strength and conditioning room for both the coaches and pupils to utilise to its fullest.  Additionally, our ability to apply the schools’ colour scheme and logo to equipment really does provide that sense of identity and pride the school were looking for.

IndigoFitness Create and Install New Gym for Training Shed

IndigoFitness Create and Install New Gym for Training Shed

Training Shed is a facility located at the One Leisure St. Ives Outdoor, in Cambridgeshire. As they state “At the TRAINING SHED we have a simple aim: to offer the very best functional tools and guidance to help you achieve your potential. The TRAINING SHED is a facility that will motivate you, take you to new levels of training you perhaps never thought possible and is one that most professional sports teams dream of having.”

See The Brief

The Brief:

The facility started life as four squash courts. Over time, the courts were getting less and less use so One Leisure decided to change the space and provide something more useful to their members. Training Shed took over the space and came to see IndigoFitness about designing a training space that would allow them to bring their concept of providing high performance training environments and programs to the everyday public.

View The Solution

The Solution:

After plenty of back-and-forth discussions and visualisations of potential layouts using our 3D gym design software, it was decided that splitting the space into five distinct areas would deliver the best solution. The areas were: multi-functional turf (MFTA), Olympic lifting, strength training, cardio, and finally an additional MFTA on the mezzanine floor.

Every facility we design starts from the floor up, with an initial focus on getting the correct layout and flow to maximise space and functionality. We then decide on the most appropriate flooring solutions, supplying the highest quality flooring products for performance and longevity. To support the five different training areas, we opted for a mix of three different flooring types: duraTRAIN in the lifting and strength areas, artificial turf in the MFTA, and PaviFLEX Fitness Eco in the cardio area.

The centre piece in the large open-plan downstairs space is the wall fixed Shadow series rig – which provides four lifting stations, four pull up bars, and multiple ball grip options fitted between the lifting stations. Fixing the rig to the wall also allowed more floor space for additional equipment, and in front of the rigs are three Olympic lifting stations, creating by embedding lifting platforms into the duraTRAIN tiles. Drop zones are created by using a contrasting tile colour and the platforms themselves feature the Training Shed logo. Completing the strength area are two glute ham benches, RAZE Horizontal plate storage racks, wall fixed plate storage, and a compact dual pulley station. Adjustable benches in the dumbbell area and all station strength feature custom branded upholstery with logos and green accents. Stations supplied are selectorised lat pull down/low row combo, leg extension/curl combo, dual stack functional trainer, and a plate loaded incline leg press.

To maximise space in the downstairs MFTA, Zenith storage bays were designed to hold all the small equipment and also provide additional functionality with suspension training/muscle-up bars. Bespoke Training Shed branding on the storage unit provides a big visual impact. Also supplied in this area were Renegade Airbikes, Concept 2 rowers and Ski ergs, and two wall mounted Carbon Claw punchbags.
Up on the mezzanine we replicated the layout of the MFTA on the ground floor with a three-bay bespoke Zenith storage unit and large open plan artificial turf area.

View The Result

The Result:

Combining all the above has produced a truly high-class training facility – an environment full of functionality and flexibility that compliments the training and experience that Training Shed want to offer their members.

IndigoFitness overhaul functional area for Feelfit Gym

IndigoFitness overhaul functional area for Feelfit Gym

Feelfit Gym in Cowley, Oxford, is the City’s largest gym with over 30,000 sq. ft. spread over 2 floors.  They took advantage of the lockdown period to renovate and refresh, with the goal of creating something new and exiting in time for when they could welcome members back.

See The Brief

The Brief:

Feelfit’s functional area was dated and uninspiring, with a standalone rig, separate storage units and worn out track.  Being near the entrance it was a valuable space but, was underused by members and did not provide the club with the engagement or ‘wow factor’ they thought it deserved.

Their brief was to create a functional training and group class area that would provide a strong first impression, acting as a selling point when recruiting new members, and provide inspiration for both trainers and members alike.

The owners also wanted to find a way to make the space feel separate from the rest of the gym, while still having it largely open on one side.  A walkway around the left edge of the space lead to the MMA and boxing facility but people would walk across the corner of the functional space because there was no obvious divide.

View The Solution

The Solution:

The clubs’ original plan to combat this was to install a partition wall between the training area and the walkway, however we saw an opportunity to incorporate this into the design of the equipment without the need for building a wall.  We proposed using the rig / storage system to create the divide, because as well as allowing the space to feel more open, it would derive a functional benefit of additional storage space and enable us to incorporate training equipment along it – such as wall bars, a Nordic attachment, a dip attachment, a Revvll rope trainer, and a hi / low pulley.

Having our own design team and manufacturing facility allows us to provide bespoke solutions that really are designed specifically to fit in the space available, and work with it in terms of maximizing functionality.  The training rig we designed also exemplifies this principle – it covers the full length of the space with legs that are at the perimeter of the room, maximizing floor space.   A 12m long continuous run of monkey bars occupies the centre of the training space, with throw targets and wings on one side and a sliding punchbag rail, holding 4 bags, on the other.  The sliding rail feature enables the punchbags to be rolled out when in use and then returned to the corner when not, freeing up the whole floor space under the rig.

We have surrounded the custom rig and storage with complimentary HIIT cardio pieces; two Concept II Ski Ergs fixed to the pillar, two Renegade Airbikes, and two Renegade Runners.  Their positioning means they can easily be incorporated into the group classes or used on an individual basis.

Underneath all the equipment is a large piece of bespoke turf, designed and marked out to match the various elements of the rig, and make programming for classes that much easier.

View The Result

The Result:

This functional space goes above and beyond the original brief provided by the customer and truly does provide a ‘wow factor’ for anyone entering the gym.  Most importantly we have created an incredible training space that truly demonstrates what custom designed and manufactured equipment can achieve, with benefits delivered for Feelfit’s owners, their members, and their personal trainers.

IndigoFitness work with Martyn Ford to create amazing functional training space

IndigoFitness work with Martyn Ford to create amazing functional training space

Martyn Ford is a 320 lbs, 6’8″ bodybuilder, actor, and MMA fighter. His recent films include Boyka: Undisputed (2016); Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017); Redcon-1 (2018); and he will be in the new Fast & Furious 9 when it’s released in 2021.

IndigoFitness helped Martyn create a new functional training space to help with his preparations for film roles and his return to MMA!

See The Brief

The Brief:

This project was first and foremost about helping Martyn create the training facility of his dreams. A gym that had the functionality to deliver the type and style of training Martyn needed at any given time, whether that be bulking up, trimming down, or getting mobile.

He presented us with an amazing 165m2 industrial space – a blank canvas with fantastic light, high ceilings, and original features, and challenged us to provide the most functional performance training space possible.

View The Solution

The Solution:

With gym design we always start from the ground up – determining what the space will be used for allows us to select to correct flooring type – and getting the flooring right is crucial to the success of any training space.

With the space being so large we were able to create a few different training ‘zones’, each with their own flooring solution, but all integrated so the finished floor appears as one seamless surface. The centre-piece is a custom marked and branded 18m x 2m turf track, which is ideal for sled work, tyre flips, and speed and agility work. Surrounding the track is an area of 32mm duraTRAIN premium flooring tiles, which is perfect for strength training and Olympic lifting, and in this we integrated two custom branded ‘Graphix’ lifting platforms. Finally, we also have an area of PaviFLEX tatamiPRO tiles for stretching and rehabilitation exercises.

In terms of equipment, we decided the best use of space would be to create a structure along-one side of the room. Using the s10 range as a base, we custom designed a system to incorporate all the training elements of a functional rig / power racks / high rope climb / cable system / and equipment storage.
This 18m long super structure really is the hub of the whole facility. It houses two power racks for all of Martyn’s heavy lifting sessions, and a functional rig with a monkey bar run and numerous attachments for when Martyn wants to switch his sessions up. A high rope climb and Olympic rings section really makes the most of the amazing height available, and the dual pulley system adds an extra training dimension. Storage for small equipment is incorporated along the whole length and really does mean that this custom unit ticks every possible box.

A custom storage unit services the rehabilitation and stretching area on the other side of the facility, and also along this side is the full RAZE Renegade HIIT cardio range of Runner, Rower and Bike.

View The Result

The Result:

This was a great project to work on, and one that really allowed our gym and product design teams to get creative and deliver a truly stunning solution.

After seeing the space Martyn said “The complete work out solution that was provided to me from Indigo Fitness has been revolutionary in my training, and helped me so much with my fitness work in preparation for my projects coming up.

The carefully designed application of stations makes workouts an absolute joy, while challenging everytime.

Not only does the lay out of the stations make it near impossible to repeat the same workout twice,  with endless options,  it never fails to excite me with new prospects.

Top that off with the best feeling and functioning cable machine ive ever used, and you have an elite piece of equipment for everyone.”

IndigoFitness delivers outstanding new training space for Marlborough College Malaysia

IndigoFitness delivers outstanding new training space for Marlborough College Malaysia

By Indigo Fitness

Marlborough College Malaysia (MCM) is a fully coeducational, and independent British boarding and day international school in Iskandar Puteri, one of the best in Malaysia. The school is situated on a secure 90-acre estate on the southern tip of Malaysia, 20km from the Singapore border. The campus provides a spacious and beautiful environment to enrich the development of its 900 pupils.

See The Brief

The Brief:

Sport is a very important aspect to life at MCM and they required a gym space to match all their other outstanding facilities. They were looking for the ability to train large groups of students at one time, whilst also being able to tailor sessions for the hugely diverse range of athletes and sport they offer. They also wanted to incorporate their school branding and colour scheme, to make the space feel an integral part of the college.

View The Solution

Our Solution:

IndigoFitness worked with the college for over 12 months on everything from gym design and equipment specification, to the significant logistical and installation challenges that this project presented (Malaysia is 6, 500 miles from the UK!).

The first thing to get right was the flooring as each different training activity requires a different training surface.  PaviFlex Fitness Pro-eco tiles were used for the functional area, whilst 32mm DuraTRAIN tiles were used in the strength training areas – these tiles are great for reducing noise and vibrations from the repeated dropping of heavy weights.  Full colour, Marlborough College branded Graphix inset platforms were installed in the lifting zones, and a 30m turf track was laid along the complete length of the room.

Once the flooring specification was sorted, we then looked to the training equipment.  A custom designed Monster training rig, featuring additional lifting stations and integrated storage became the focal point for the functional training area.  The rig was finished in the college’s colour scheme and prominently featured the MCM logo.  It was kitted out with a full range of training equipment including; PWR Bales and PWR Stones, RAZE rubber kettlebells, slam balls, foam rollers, and plyo boxes, Raptor weighted vests, Revvll rope trainers and Carbon Claw punchbags.

Four s30 power racks with integrated prone row attachments were installed in the lifting area.  The rest of the strength training area contains a GHD, a compact DAP, and four adjustable incline/decline benches – all manufactured by IndigoFitness and finished with embroidered logos on the upholstery.  The area also contains RAZE Zenith PU dumbbells and a variety of RAZE Olympic bars and bumper plates.

The facility also boasts Renegade Airbikes and Runners, Concept Rowers and Ski Ergs, Wattbikes, and Life Fitness ICG Spin Bikes.

A team of 4 IndigoFitness engineers travelled over to Malaysia to complete the installation, which was completed in under a week, to meet the school’s tight timeframes and mitigate any impact on students.

View The Result

The Result:

Both IndigoFitness and MCM worked tirelessly on this project to ensure that no matter where their students’ sporting and fitness interests lie, this high-quality training space provides the equipment to support and challenge all athletes to reach their full potential.

Comments from Jamie Lennard, Director of Sport at Marlborough College Malaysia:

What do Marlborough College Malaysia look for when selecting suppliers?

When designing and implementing a new gym, the quality and reliability of the business, as well as the equipment, is essential.  Furthermore, the delivery and installation of an agreed time frame is essential.

What is your first impression of working with Indigo?

Outstanding – Having worked with the company before, I knew that they were trustworthy and offered excellent customer service. The delivery to Malaysia was complicated but the Indigo team were excellent in supporting us in the process.  The advice and knowledge about each piece of equipment discussed during the ordering process was superb and very informative.  When ordering on this scale and distance there is no room for error.

How does the branding/customisation impact the training space?

We have had the benches, racks and the main training rig customised, which just looks fantastic. The initial impact and sense of pride amongst the pupils and staff were great to witness.

What has been the feedback from both students and staff to the new gym?

The gym is now used daily.  The only feedback needed is the number of pupils and staff who voluntarily attend the morning and after-school clubs to take part in the many options available such as; Boot camps; HIIT club; Speed sessions and Girls only workouts!  The most popular equipment so far has been the Wattbikes, but the training rig (mainly for muscle-ups at the moment!) and new floor are allowing us to explore more functional strength training.  The lifting platforms have also been excellent, both visually and for performance.  Our pupils have embraced technical lifts such as Olympic Cleans and Olympic Snatch.

Comments from Harry Harkins – Director of Estates at Marlborough College Malaysia:

How was the process of working with Indigo on this project?

Overall, we were taking a risk, especially appointing an overseas vendor.  So, we had to be rigorous in our due diligence; previous reputation and relevant customer references were essential.

From start to finish IndigoFitness were professional and knowledgeable, not only about their own product but about construction in general.  Their attitude was excellent, and the quality of the work exceeded all expectations.

Access to the site presented several challenges but by conducting site visits on Facetime, a workable plan was quickly agreed and implemented.  An initial set-back with the delays in customs clearance put enormous pressure on the project timetable but, with some late nights, the project was successfully delivered.

IndigoFitness creates new strength and conditioning facility at Carver Barracks

IndigoFitness creates new strength and conditioning facility at Carver Barracks

By Indigo Fitness

Carver Barracks is a British Army base on the former site of RAF Debden, and is home to 33, 35, and 101 Engineer Regiments (EOD) and 29 EOD & Search Group Support Unit (GSU).

See The Brief

The Brief:

They were looking to update their gym to include a dedicated strength and conditioning area, but with limited available space in the existing gym had to look at other options.  There were a number of un-used buildings on site, and after a survey of these with key stakeholders, it was decided a former indoor shooting range could make a viable, dedicated strength and conditioning training facility for the personnel at Carver – it was water tight, had heating and was big enough to fit a large multiple bay training rig.

View The Solution

Our Solution:

IndigoFitness completed an initial site survey, and it was decided that before the gym installation could begin the existing sprung floor needed firming up to make it suitable for lifting weights on.  Once this was completed it was time for the gym flooring to be installed, which comprised of 32mm duraTRAIN tiles (perfect for a multi-use S&C area), and an integrated 20m artificial track lane.

A custom designed, wall fixed rig was installed along one of the walls – ensuring a maximum number of users could train the big lifts safely and efficiently, without losing to much valuable floor space.  As an equipment designer and manufacturer, IndigoFitness were able to create the custom elements, and finish the equipment in a custom colour scheme.

View The Result

The Result:

The space was completed with RAZE Olympic plates and bars, some existing cardio equipment and the addition of RAZE Renegade Runners and Air bikes for HIIT.  New pedestrian doors and access ramps were installed, as was some impressive graffiti artwork by one of the soldiers.  The final creation was a refreshingly positive environment in which the men and women of Carver Barracks would be able to train.

IndigoFitness creates new training space for Firehouse Fitness in Sheffield

IndigoFitness creates new training space for Firehouse Fitness in Sheffield

By Indigo Fitness

Firehouse Fitness was founded in 2013 by former firefighter Rob McGuigan.  Rob wanted to inspire a fitness community by delivering a group training experience that combined his firefighter training methods with his firefighter team values – a communal, supportive and inclusive way to train, the Firehouse way.  The formula found success, and by 2019 there were gyms in Leeds and Sheffield and a growing team of personal trainers.

See The Brief

The Brief:

Looking to expand their presence in Sheffield, Rob came to IndigoFitness with a vision of creating a new, larger, facility that built on the values and experiences they had established.  They were very clear that as well as providing a facility for their members that catered for all their training requirements, they also wanted to retain the ethos of hard work and community feeling.

With such a strong and clear vision, it made sense for IndigoFitness to invite the Firehouse team into the heart of the design process.  This consisted of a series of meetings, where different ideas were discussed and layouts and equipment mixes were changed around, all supported with the latest in 3D design software so the Firehouse team could visualise exactly what each idea would look like.

View The Solution

Our Solution:

This consultative design process eventually led to the creation of the ‘Drill Yard’ – a large functional group training area that serves as the main focal point of the facility and captures that special Firehouse community spirit.  The Drill Yard measures 18m x 11m and is covered with artificial turf – giving them a multi-functional surface that can be used for a wide range of activities such as their unique Drill, Accelerant and Firefight classes.  The Drill Yard also houses a 16m long custom designed functional rig that features squat stations, punch bags stations, and ball targets, to really provide a full-service functional training solution.

Whilst keen to ensure much of the facility was as multi-functional as possible, they still wanted to offer a dedicated strength area.  They were able to choose equipment from the wide range of IndigoFitness in-house manufactured selectorised and plate loaded stations, plus specialist items such as half racks with integrated lifting platforms, GHDs, a prone row bench and belt squat.  As a designer and manufacturer, IndigoFitness were able to create all the custom elements, and finish the equipment in a custom colour scheme that tied in with the Firehouse Fitness brand image.

30mm thick rubber tiles were the flooring choice for the strength areas, and the gym was finished with a selection of RAZE training equipment such as Olympic plates and bars, kettlebells, PU dumbells, plyo boxes and five Renegade Runners.

View The Result

The Result:

Indigo are very proud to have worked with the Firehouse Fitness team on this project and provided a full 360° solution – covering initial consultation and design, flooring solutions, custom designed equipment, and complete install.  The result is a fantastic training space that delivers on the original goal of creating a communal, supportive and inclusive way to train – the Firehouse Way!

16 Air Assault Brigade - Colchester

16 Air Assault Brigade – British Army Colchester

By Indigo Fitness

The British Army’s 16 Air Assault Brigade, based at the Colchester garrison, is the Army’s rapid response airborne formation and is the only brigade in the British Army focused on delivering air assault operations.  Formed around the legendary Parachute Regiment Battalions, the Paras are amongst the fittest, toughest, most feared and most respected soldiers in the world.

See The Brief

gym design

The Brief:

The brief for their new training space was twofold; to design a highly customised strength and conditioning environment which would meet the needs of this elite unit, and additionally would also meet the requirements of the new Army Physical Training System (APTS).

The training space would need enough equipment and variations to accommodate a company strength (anything from 80-150 soldiers), though, came with a major constraint that the entire solution could not be permanently fixed in place – everything needed the ability to be rapidly broken down and moved out, even the flooring and training platforms.

Indigo Fitness were selected as the most capable supplier for this challenging task by Regional Command, on behalf of the Royal Army Physical Training Corps.

View The Solution

Our Solution:

With the challenge set, the Indigo design team got to work and created a series of heavy duty fabricated structural sub-frames. These frames accommodated 3 separate flooring areas; a 4m x 25m turf lane, a 30m x 3.5m lifting zone with duraTRAIN tiles and integrated platforms, and a 12m x 4m training rig zone with duraTRAIN tiles. The frames were created in sections that locked together, which meant they could also be quickly and easily dis-assembled. In addition, fourteen wheeled and locking equipment trollies were designed to store and control small equipment. RAZE Renegade air bikes and rowers were added as they are easy to move around the training space and don’t require mains power. To create a sense of identity for the training space, the Brigade’s Pegasus emblem was sub-surface printed into the fourteen graphix lifting platform centres, a technique guaranteed to protect the logo from wear.

View The Result

The Result:

The final solution is a fantastically diverse, effective, and functional training space, designed to exclusively meet the needs of 16 Air Assault Brigade. To have been entrusted with the design, manufacture, and delivery of this solution was both a challenge and an honour for the Indigo team.
