CRANMORE SCHOOL
IndigoFitness Squash Court Conversion for Cranmore School
The Situation
With this change Cranmore were looking to convert an underused squash court into their Athlete Development Centre that would cater for all their sports teams training needs, P.E. lessons, and allow staff to train. The brief was to create a multi-functional space that could easily transition and be utilized for each of these different areas and fit with the aesthetics the school were looking for.
The Solution
To achieve this, the room was split into two halves, with one half focusing on strength and conditioning and the other group training.
On the S&C side we installed 30mm impact “Endura” tiles which are durable enough take the strain from dropping weights. This also allowed us to also inset a custom branded Graphix platform for Olympic lifting, and a Shadow Series Half Rack with a custom branded joining plate displaying the school’s crest.
On the group training side, we began by installing blue PaviFLEX Turflex Excellence, which we built up to the same 30mm height as tiles on the right-hand side to provide a seamless finish to the floor throughout the room, which is important from both a visual and safety point of view. On top of the turf and running down the wall is the centre piece of the training space, a 9m long bespoke designed wall fixed multi-purpose rig. The rig is designed utilising our Shadow Series range and includes hanging points for 5 Carbon Claw striking bags, 6 multigrip pull up stations, a suspension bar for TRX running the full length, functional legs at the back for dip attachments, and finally storage for the TRX when not in use. The rig was designed to be far enough away from the wall so that the schools Concept 2 rowers could easily be stored upright inside the rig when not in use, freeing up floor space.
The Success
This conversion really shows what can be achieved in a squash court space with the correct overall design and bespoke solutions achieving that multi-functional training space the school were looking for.
Director of Sport, Paul Hodgson said “We put a lot of time and thought into the design of the space in collaboration with Indigo. The school have been blown away by the Athletic Development Centre – everyone is so impressed, it has exceeded all expectations and we are already looking at phase 2 to develop the space further.”
